Technical software YouTube benchmark
Technical buyers will spend time with a useful video. They still expect it to earn their attention.
Across 22 verified channels, the median publishing operation released 193.5 videos in the trailing year. Newer uploads earned 2.38 times the daily view rate of older work at the median.
Where viewers responded
1.95% of recorded views went to videos with a meaningful level of visible engagement.
Bimodal. Channels cluster near 100% or under 5%, so the median describes no real channel — use the quartiles, and use engaged_share_view_weighted when the question is 'what share of this industry's views actually land'. We count a video when it has at least 10,000 views and visible likes and comments equal to 0.2% of views or more.
Share of recorded views on engagement-qualified videos. Descriptive, not causal.

The full range matters
One average cannot tell the whole story.
The figures below show the 25th percentile, the middle, and the 75th percentile. They give you a more honest picture of the category without turning the best or worst result into a target.

Use the benchmark to guide your next questions.
Longer can work when the topic earns it.
Video length is not a score or a recommendation. It simply helps you see whether buyers are finding enough substance when the question is specific and useful.
Newer videos should have a chance to build momentum.
We compare the daily view rate of newer and older uploads. That gives you an early sign of movement, but it cannot prove content quality or business impact.
A large video library still needs an editor.
Publishing more can create helpful coverage. It can also make it harder to see which topics and formats deserve another round of investment.

A note on the numbers
Useful evidence, with clear limits.
We leave out videos that are less than 30 days old because they are still gathering views. Public data cannot show impressions, click-through rate, spend, paid versus organic views, watch time, retention, traffic sources, or audience demographics.
Use this benchmark to spot the formats, topic gaps, and performance patterns that deserve a closer human review.
